KNITTING
In a world where crochet is the next big creative hobby and knitting is a thing of old, I have decided to take it up the craft. Knitting that is.
Knitting isn’t just stitches intrically looped into each other, continuously dropping from needles (IT’S MORE THAN THAT) It consists of soothing repitition, that allows you multitask reading, conversations and lectures without it enveloping your entire consiousness (unlike the tedious work of crocheting).
WHAT IT IS:
Knitting consists of two basic stitches (which is why it’s so repititive), combined in any number of patterns (which is why the repititiveness of it is a choice) to form any flowing cloth from beautiful designs to our wonderful basic bitc- scarves.
GETTING INTO IT:
Because knitting is only two stitches, getting started and seeing yourself levelling up are all too simple. Just pick yourself some knitting needles (around size 5 is a good start) and some wool (maybe avoid the fuzzy as they can take more patience to handle) and it’s just you’re just one stitch (and a cast on) away from being a wonderful knitter!
WHY YOU SHOULD NOT GET INTO IT:
There is only one possible reason - you’re scared of looking like an old grandmother in a rocking chair. coward. pick up those needles. you can make anything you could ever like from them, any shirt you wanted? any bandana you could imagine? it’s there. it’s right there. stitch. it.
tldr: there are no reasons.

You can join a knitting club, ask a friend or where we learn most things this era, watch a youtube video (yeah, no chatgtp can’t help you on this). I’ll link everything you might need.[^Ω]
CLEARING MISUNDERSTANDINGS
Lots of people do needle work not just your grandmother. and isn’t it just fire? Frame it another way, it already slips into unique. Make it something that is yours.
One more thing - knitting is to make loose wearable fabric - some of the woolwork keychains you might have your eye on are crocheted.
While some may claim I am a teensy bit biased towards knitting (over crochet), both do have their benefits and nothing stops you from doing both. so start one. do both. (knitting takes less fabric so you know what to start first 👍)
EXTRA INFO:
Knitting comes in two main styles - the english (not harry) style and the continental one. English is simpler and easier to master, but if you notice someone knitting in continental and you wondering where this THIRD (the betrayal) stitch has come from, watch for the outcome. Both styles form the exact same stitches.
Learn these stitches to start - the cast on (get your stitches on a needle), the knit stitch (pack in the punch) and the bind off (finally get them off your needle). Upgrade your cast on (long tail is a good choice), once your knit stitch is perfected. Then get to a purl stitch. And then maybe one day consider upgrading your cast off stitch.
Knitting is all about learning it yourself, go online, explore patterns in your budget and in your skillset (and those that aren’t). There is no one pyramid or ladder to becoming a good knitter. Knitting is as big or as small as you want it to be. Make it yours.
Sometimes we all need to turn a part of our brain off and be with yourself. Knitting has been that thing for me.
